As far back as I remember, I was drawn to natural stones. No matter where I traveled, some came home with me. Although originally an art major in college, I decided to segway into education and spent 37 years in the classroom teaching every subject over my career. Finally I was drawn to teaching earth science, and that includes rocks and minerals. The rest is history. I combined my appreciation of art with my love of natural stones, and voila' Suwannee Song Designs was born!
So what about the name? Well, I live on the Suwannee River in North Florida. We have vivid green forests, crystal clear aqua springs, a coppery brown winding river, and skies of every blue imaginable. And, we even have those colorful spring flowers unlike our neighbors further south. All of those wonderful elements of my environment are my inspiration. Consequently, I decided that my work would reflect this, simple, natural and with no glass or artificial stones used. Suwannee Song Designs, truly inspired by nature.
The natural stones I use are each different and inspire me to create pieces that are as unique and varied as they are. For that reason, on any given day you might find me soldering or brazing, forging and hammering, working or crocheting wire, knotting silk, setting rivets or sawing tabs to hold cabochons. You can be sure that not only are my pieces usually one-of-a-kind, but made to last for years, even generations! I love my stones and constantly strive to learn new ways to display them.
